Make your mark: "The DoT"
- BE CREATIVE: You are your only limitation
- EXPERIMENT: Try out several techniques before you select your favorite final dot
- UNIQUENESS: It should not look like anyone's at your table
- CONSIDER THE "DOT" A REFLECTION OF YOU: is it bright and colorful, energetic or dull...?
- Use the supplies provided (Experiment with mixing materials and techniques)
- Make as many as you want in the time provided (Choose your favorite technique for the Portfolio Cover)
- Work with colors and patterns that represent you
- Use a compass or trace round things to make the dot precisely round (if that is important to you)
- Let it dry and layer more techniques over the top
Terms to Know:
- Dot- Expressive mark (somewhat circular)
- Monogram - a motif made by overlapping or combining two or more letters or initials to form one symbol
- Shape- when a line comes back around to meet and enclose an area (has both height and width)
- Positive shape (the area enclosed)
- Negative shape (the area around the enclosed shape)
- Organic- curvy shape or line- like something found in nature
- Geometric- a shape or line made with straight or angled lines
- Pattern & Repetition- the principle of design that deals with doing something over and over in a planned way
- Composition- choices for how to arrange the parts of a design
- Unity- the principle of design that makes all the separate element of an artwork look as if they belong together
- Balance- when a composition has equal visual weight on all sides
- Focal Point- the are a of a design that catches the viewers visual attention
