Rare beauties to behold
Multi-Layer Dry-point & Monoprint:
INTAGLIO- a design made with incised lines into a smooth plate. The ink is rubbed into the scratched linework and the surface is wiped clean. Prints are made using damp paper and the printing press.
DRY-POINT- a type of Intaglio printing, where the plate is made by scratching with a sharp
STYLUS into the surface of the plate.
MONOPRINT- a singular print (doesn’t look exactly like the one before or after it), in this case made by smudging various colors of ink onto an acetate plate, and by moving and manipulating the ink with toothpicks, q-tips, and paint brushes.
NOTE: Akua, soy-based ink does not dry when exposed to air! It must absorb into the paper, so if you use too much it will forever be very messy!

{1} layer will contain a close-up look at a rarely seen animal or insect (research digital reference photographs to develop your design)
- Line work with varying thicknesses, directions, and qualities. - Implied texture (scratching and mark making) to add interest to the dry-point layer. -Fill the space available on the CD plate (limited/planned empty places) -Consider working with the round format and the hole in the middle as aspects of your design Using a CD as a plate for the intaglio layer |
{1} layer will contain a landscape that is ethereal, otherworldly, or remote.
- Color choices are experimental and not true to nature - Pigments are blended and manipulated directly on the acetate plate - Monoprint layer corresponds to CD dry-point layer, adds emphasis and interest to the finished multi-layer print - Inks are transparent (not very goopy) * |
