Steps and Tips:
- Simplify your image from a photo or sketch
- Draw your image (based on finding the shapes of the shadows)
- Avoid thin lines and tiny details
- Shade in all the negative shapes that you plan to "drop-out"
- Make sure all the white (positive shapes) connect to the background and edges of the paper boarder) in order to keep the stencil connected in one piece
- Once you've checked the design, you may choose to sharpie in the negative shapes and erase extra pencil lines to avoid confusion when you cut
- Use rubber cement or spray adhesive to attach your design to the manilla folder or other stencil material
- Using a sharp, fresh x-acto blade and a self-healing cutting mat, carefully cut around all edges and remove all the negative shapes.
- Go back over edges and corners carefully to avoid tearing or ripping edges
- Use loops of tape or stick down your stencil on the surface where you plan to spray . Make sure it has close contact in all areas and along the edges.
- Spray at a distance of 6-8 inches with even pressure on the nozzle, and swift strokes to avoid pooling and dripping
- Make a few practice prints, 3 finals on paper, and one final on your portfolio cover * Save all your attempts to show improvment
